Morehead City, NC – November 22, 2024 – The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament is proud to announce the appointment of Captain Brent Gaskill to its Board of Directors. With over 15 years of participation in the Big Rock Tournament and a distinguished career in international sportfishing, Brent brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted connection to Eastern North Carolina.
“I’m truly honored to join the Big Rock Board of Directors,” said Captain Brent Gaskill. “The Big Rock is more than just a tournament — it’s a tradition I grew up around and a cornerstone of our community here in Eastern North Carolina. While I’ve been fortunate to fish in some of the most prestigious tournaments around the world, there’s no place like home. I’m excited to bring my experiences back to Big Rock and help continue its incredible legacy.”
Brent’s notable achievements in the Big Rock Tournament include securing third place overall in the 2024 tournament with a 431.8-pound blue marlin, earning $1,802,050. He also led his team to victory in the 24th Annual Keli Wagner Lady Angler (KWLA) Tournament, winning both the release and dolphin divisions. Since 2019, Brent has been an integral part of the Big Rock Big Hero program while at the helm of the 64’ Jarrett Bay, BUILDER’S CHOICE, hosting active-duty service members & sharing the thrill of sportfishing.
Beyond the Big Rock Tournament, Brent’s sportfishing career is marked by an impressive list of achievements on the international stage. Most recently, in 2024, he secured first place at the Bermuda Seahorse Anglers Club Tournament. In 2023, he won the Bermuda Triple Crown, the Bermuda Billfish Blast, the Marina Casa de Campo Cup, and the Marina Casa de Campo Open, adding to his earlier victories in the same tournament in 2018 and 2019. Captain Gaskill’s accomplishments also include first place in The Shootout Custom vs. Production in 2022 and second place in the Bermuda Triple Crown in 2021. His earlier wins include first place in the 2019 Marina Casa de Campo International Blue Marlin Classic, second place at the Custom Shootout in 2018, and an unforgettable first place finish at the 2018 Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament with a 911.1-pound blue marlin. These achievements solidify Brent as one of the most decorated captains in the sportfishing world.
“Brent is one of the most talented fishermen I have met and is well respected in the Sportfishing community. His passion along with his strong community ties make him a natural addition to the board.” – Randy Ramsey, Big Rock Board Member since 1987
When not competing in tournament circuits, Brent remains grounded in the traditions of Eastern North Carolina. During the off-season, he works as a shrimper and commercial fisherman, continuing the time-honored maritime heritage of his hometown, Harkers Island, NC. This year has been especially memorable for Brent and his wife, Margaret, as they welcomed their first child.
“Having known Brent for many years, I am thrilled to welcome him to the Big Rock Board of Directors. His innovative thinking and remarkable success in fishing, both locally and internationally, make him an invaluable asset to our team. I look forward to the fresh perspective and expertise he will bring to drive Big Rock’s growth and success in the years to come!” – Les Collins, Big Rock President
